the old way - how most hotel/resorts do it now
The traditional webmaster
- Webmaster is incentivised to bill hours
- Webmaster is incentivised to make complicated websites (more hours to book)
The incentive is not right, your interests are not aligned with your webmaster. In the end, you are after bookings and it is a simple, stream-lined, easy to navigate website that delivers, that converts website visitors into confirmed online bookings.
incrementing - it's the little things that matter
So often, it is little things- things that do not take much time and thus do not add up to much on a bill- that really matter. Who is going to do these things? Who is going to actually seek out these things. The world of search engine optimization especially is full of these low-time but high-return projects. The traditional webmaster has no incentive to do these things. Internal staff have no incentive to do these things. Sure, a high-quality webmaster will normally "dot all the i's and cross all the t's" regardless - but many webmasters will not bother because it's simply not worth much to them.
an example - directory submissions
Every webmaster knows that directory submissions matter because they are "back links" to the target website and these back links are very important to Google's (and many other) search engine rankings. Lots of back links to lots of quality websites will definitely improve your rankings (and get you higher up on the SERP - Search Engine Results Page).
The problem? A directory submission takes about 5 minutes. From a billing perspective - what's the point. And so directory submissions and most other low time / high return projects just don't happen.
Web bookers, directories, portals
- these websites feature 1,000’s of resorts
- you are NOT a priority
- these portals do NOT lead users to YOUR website
- cash flow UNfriendly - web bookers collect money from your guests like a traditional agent— you must wait for a check from them
your own site is irrelevant to the web bookers - they do NOT want traffic going to your site
Your site is irrelevant?! It's worse, to the web booker sites (the portal sites, the directories), your site is actually a nuisance because it is diverting traffic away from their directory. We think that is simply nuts - the web bookers are the ones that are diverting YOUR valuable, precious traffic. When a potential guest enters your resort name in a search engine, they should get to your website.
If you don't believe this is true, enter your resort name into Google. We'll bet you a cappuccino that there are at least 3 directories ABOVE your listing on the SERP (the Search Engine Results Page). And chances are that there are 3 pages of listings before you see your resort listing.
