Proper incentive structure
incrementing - relentlessly fine-tuning, measuring, massaging
So much of getting a website to really hum is about making small changes: split-testing keywords, button designs, calls to action (should you say "Book Now" or "Reserve Now" or "Check Availability" on your site). These small incremental changes start a virtuous cycle that over time leads to more traffic. A traditional webmaster may skip much of this incrementing because by its very nature, it never manages to add up to all that much on a bill. Book Online Asia on the other hand never bills - so we don't care if it takes 5 minutes or 5 hours - we're not keeping track of every minute - we only care if it works.
Think about setting up all of your room rates - direct online rates and special packages and last minute deals. It can be time consuming and tedious to get it all right. And getting it all right is obviously critical to online bookings. We get it right because we have to. We get it right because it's essential to your business AND our business. A traditional webmaster is not tied to the resort in this way.
online specials - we're proactive, we're going to make recommendations based on what we are seeing
We see how the various specials are working for all of our resorts. You are very likely to get a call or email from one of our staff to say "hey, last minute is working for many of our hotels - you should try this." Or maybe, "long stay is working in Europe - you should try this."
low season - we're working hard to keep online bookings coming in
Low season - nothing much is happening at the resort and so everyone goes into "relax mode." Not us - low season is when you must work harder and be more creative to win business. Again, we succeed only when the resort succeeds. We accept that a typical low season will have less business than the high season - that's fine, that's the resort business. But no business is 100% unacceptable. We can't afford that any more than the resort can afford that.
the plow-back ratio - we spend money when most resorts back off the throttle
In the high season, the cost per booking is lower than it is in the low season. In the high season, resorts will spend money online and they will get pretty good results because they are targeting a very receptive audience - people, westerners especially want to take a holiday in the high season (the NA and Europe winter).
But in the low season the audience is not so receptive. Europe and NA are pretty nice and so potential "punters" have lots of options. In the end it means that the cost of a booking is higher. In other words, a resort must advertise more and discount heavily to win these people over. We understand that and so we keep money in reserve from the high season so that we can "plow it back in" during the low season. Again, we don't back off in the low season - we push harder because we know we have to.

They are looking for the best deals, they are looking for real value.
